The velcro strap is wide and positioned across the front of the foot, which gives a secure hold that toddlers cannot easily pull off by themselves. For very active children who tend to kick shoes off, the strap holds considerably better than a slip-on style. The velcro does not feature a traditional T-bar strap at the ankle. The shoe stays on through the strap at the front rather than a strap over the ankle.
